Q: What is the Foundation?

The Swimathon Foundation is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity that owns the assets comprising the Swimathon fundraising event which includes: intellectual property, commercial rights, data and confidential information. In addition, the Swimathon Foundation offers grants to encourage swimming in the community.

The Swimathon Foundation has delegated the organisation, operation, management and promotion of the Swimathon event to its appointed event management company, Limelight Sports Ltd. 

Q: Who is the Foundation?

The Swimathon Foundation has four Trustees: Anthony Kendall (Chairman), Philip Stinson, Ralph Riley and Graham Batterham.

Q: How is the Foundation funded?

The Foundation receives 30% of the funds raised by Swimathon participants every year in order to fund its operating expenses including offering Swimathon Foundation Grants to promote swimming participation in the community. The other 70% is used by the chosen charity beneficiary (Marie Curie Cancer Care). See the History and Role section of this website for further details. 

Q: How do I know if I am eligible for a grant?

In the past the Foundation has supported many community groups including, swimming clubs, youth groups, clubs for the elderly, and healthy living groups, but we are interested in hearing about new schemes and organisations that may benefit from the grant.

You do need to be associated with and have the support of a Swimathon 2013 pool, the list of which can be found here

Q:  How do I apply for a Swimathon Community Grant?

All applications are submitted using the online application form. If you would like to apply for a Swimathon Community Grant click here 

Q: When will I find out if my grant application has been successful?

The successful grant recipients will be notified by email week commencing 17th June 2013
 
Q:  What happens if my application is unsuccessful?

The unsuccessful grant recipients will be notified by email week commencing 17th June 2013.  
 
Q: If I am unsuccessful does my application roll on to the next round?
 
Your application will not automatically roll on to the next round if you are unsuccessful.   If you wish to apply for the next round you will need to reapply online when dates of the next round are announced.
 
Q:  How do charities become a beneficiary Charity of Swimathon?

The competitive selection process is by invitation only and the choice of Charity is the decision of the Trustees. The current Charity beneficiary for 2013 is Marie Curie Cancer Care. The selection process for future beneficiary charities is currently in progress and an announcement will be made when completed.

Q: What is the Swimathon Foundation’s Charity Number?

The Swimathon Foundation is a charity registered at the Charities Commission, no.1123870.
